Reset the power at the breaker for a minute and run a short cycle. A code that returns after these checks points to the pump, the inlet valve or the control and should be checked by a technician with the model number.

If a Frigidaire dishwasher shows a code after a recent move or installation, check the basics: the supply valve, the drain loop and the power connection. A float switch under the tub can trip if the machine tilts, so level it. Check that the door closes squarely and the latch engages. Use a dishwasher cleaner every month or two. After a holiday the filter and the spray arms are clogged with food; after a move the hoses are loose and the machine unlevelled; after a long idle spell the seals are dry and the pump is stiff. Match the code to the season: a drain code after a party points to the filter, a leak code after a move points to the hoses and a start code after a holiday away points to the latch or the breaker. This habit of thinking about what changed recently is the quickest route to the cause.

A dishwasher also has a pump that can be heard. A steady wash noise is normal; a hum with no water movement points to a blocked impeller; a rattle points to a loose item in the sump; a squeal points to a dry seal. Describe the noise to the technician in plain words, since it often identifies the part before the machine is opened.
