GE dryer leaves clothes wrinkled or tangled

GE dryer leaves clothes wrinkled or tangled: load size, fabric mix, heat and prompt removal normally matter more than hardware. Scoped to PFD95E*.

GE dryer leaves clothes wrinkled or tangled: for wrinkling on a GE Profile PFD95, GE's table has three causes: overdrying (choose a shorter time, remove items while they still hold a little moisture and select Less Dry or Damp), letting items sit after the cycle (remove them when the cycle ends and fold or hang at once, or use Wrinkle Care) and overloading (separate large loads). Wrinkle Care gives 1 hour of no-heat tumbling after drying. For dry, wrinkled items the PFD95 also has steam cycles, STEAM Refresh for 3 to 5 garments and STEAM Dewrinkle for 9 to 13, both needing High temperature and the water turned on.

Differential

Likely causes of “GE dryer leaves clothes wrinkled or tangled”, and how to tell them apart

  1. 1

    Overdrying

What separates it The cottons and synthetics come out stiff and creased because of overdrying

How to confirm Select a shorter time or Less Dry or Damp, and remove items while a little moisture remains

  2. 2

Items left in the dryer after the cycle ends

What separates it The wrinkles set after the drum stopped because items were left in the dryer after the cycle ended

How to confirm Remove and fold or hang at once, or turn on Wrinkle Care

  3. 3

    Overloading

What separates it The load comes out packed and creased in the middle

How to confirm Separate large loads into smaller ones, and dry again

  4. 4

Too many garments for a steam cycle

What separates it The garments are still wrinkled after a steam cycle because there were too many garments for a steam cycle

How to confirm Load fewer garments, and manually increase the time

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • The cycle, Level, Temp. and whether Wrinkle Care was on
  • How many garments and how long they sat afterwards
  • Whether a steam cycle was used and whether the water was turned on

  1. Stop overdrying

    Reversible

GE says to select a shorter drying time, remove items while they still hold a slight amount of moisture and select a Less Dry or Damp setting. Damp Alert beeps when clothes have dried to a damp level.

  2. Use Wrinkle Care

    Reversible

Wrinkle Care minimizes wrinkles by tumbling for 1 hour without heat after the clothes are dry. With Sound on it signals at the end of the drying time and several times to remind you to remove the clothes.

  3. Unload promptly

    Reversible

Remove items when the cycle ends and fold or hang immediately. GE says to place clothes on hangers so wrinkles will not set in, especially polyester, knits and permanent press.

  4. Use a steam cycle for dry wrinkled items

    Reversible

STEAM Refresh is for slightly wrinkled dry garments, 3 to 5 garments; STEAM Dewrinkle is for larger loads of 9 to 13 garments and ones left in the dryer for a long time. Both need High temperature and the water on, and are not for towels.

  5. Check the steam nozzle

    Reversible

If you cannot see steam during a cycle, the nozzle might be clogged with debris from your water supply; GE offers nozzle replacement kit WE25M71 through 877.959.8688.

Wrinkle-related options
The Static option sprays a mist of water at the end of the drying cycle to reduce static and is not available with Bulky, Sanitize or steam cycles. Damp Alert beeps at a damp level so you can remove items to hang. AIR FLUFF gives 10 minutes of tumbling with no heat. The Sound pad changes signal loudness, and a signal is recommended for polyester, knits and permanent press that must be removed promptly.
