  The steam cycles refresh and de-wrinkle clothes, and they need the water supply connected and the tank filled where the model has one. Clean the moisture sensor bars inside the drum with a cloth and a little rubbing alcohol, since a film from fabric softener stops the sensor working.

  The dryer senses moisture through the metal bars inside the drum, so clothes must touch them. A very small load may not register and the cycle may run long, so add a couple of towels. Do not overfill, since clothes need room to tumble in the hot air. Use the sensor dry cycles for most loads rather than a long timed cycle, which wastes energy and can over-dry. The Steam cycles need the water connection and may need the tank filled, depending on the model.
• Safety and installation
  A dryer needs a dedicated circuit, a vent to the outside of the shortest practical length and no flexible foil duct. Lint is a fire hazard, so clean the screen after every load and have the duct cleaned yearly. If you smell burning, stop the dryer, unplug it and check the vent. Never run it with a damaged cord or while away from home.
