LG range or oven electric or radiant burner will not heat correctly

LG range or oven electric or radiant burner will not heat correctly: element seating, control selection, cookware and household power should be checked before internal control service. Scoped to LREL6325F.

On the LREL6325 the surface elements are radiant elements under the glass, switched by knobs that click at OFF, HI and LO, plus a Warm Zone at back center. LG's troubleshooting says an element that does not work needs the breaker checked and the correct knob set for that element; one that will not hold a rolling boil usually has the wrong cookware or low house voltage, so cover the pan. Elements cycling on and off to hold the setting is normal, and an element that stops glowing after you turn it down is still hot.

Differential

Likely causes of “LG range or oven electric or radiant burner will not heat correctly”, and how to tell them apart

  1. 1

The knob is not pushed in and turned to the right element

What separates it The element you want stays cold while another one heats

How to confirm Push the knob in, turn it in the correct direction and check the glow

  2. 2

A dual or triple element used in single mode

What separates it Only the inner ring of the left front element heats when you expect the whole element

How to confirm Turn the knob clockwise to use the outer element, as LG describes

  3. 3

Cookware that does not match the element

What separates it Water will not reach a rolling boil even on the highest setting with a lid on

How to confirm Use flat pans that match the element diameter and cover with a lid

  4. 4

A tripped breaker or low house voltage

What separates it No element heats at all, or every element seems weak compared with before

How to confirm Reset the range breaker and try a lid to reach heat

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • Which element does not heat and what its knob is set to
  • Whether the oven works when the cooktop does not
  • The knob position and what the indicator shows

Try in this order

  1. Check the knob

    Reversible

Push the knob in first, then turn it to a setting. LG says the control clicks at OFF, HI and LO.

  2. Use the right element mode

    Reversible

On the dual element turn the knob counterclockwise for the inner ring or clockwise for both rings; a triple element has a third position.

  3. Check the pan

    Reversible

LG recommends flat, heavy-gauge pans matching the element size with tight lids; pans should extend no more than 1/2 to 1 inch beyond the ring.

  4. Check power

    Reversible

Reset the range breaker and check the house fuse; LG lists both as causes of elements that do not work.

  5. Use the Warm Zone correctly

    Reversible

For the back-center Warm Zone press COOKTOP Set/Off, then use the Level button; it is for keeping cooked food hot for up to 2 hours, not for cooking.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Cooktop elements
Single elements click at OFF, HI and LO. The left front is a dual element (turn the knob counterclockwise for single, clockwise for dual) and some models add a triple. The hot-surface light stays on until the glass cools to about 150 °F.
Warm Zone
Press COOKTOP Set/Off; the warm zone light flashes, then use Level. Start with hot food only, never for more than 2 hours. It does not glow red.
