Published specification

What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.

Type — ROBOT vacuum
A ROBOT vacuum with camera obstacle avoidance (PrecisionVision) — symptoms are navigation, docking and brushes. The j7+ adds a Clean Base self-empty dock; the plain j7 charges on a standard dock without self-empty.
Docking & (on +) self-empty
'Won't dock/charge' is usually dirty charging contacts, the dock moved/unplugged, or blocked clearance. On the j7+, 'won't empty' is a full Clean Base bag or a clogged path; the plain j7 has no self-empty, so you empty its onboard bin.
Brushes, wheels & sensors
Two rubber brushrolls, a side brush, drive wheels and sensors — clear hair and wipe sensors/camera if it gets stuck or misbehaves.

Questions that only have an answer for the iRobot Roomba j7/j7+ robot vacuum

Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.

My Roomba j7 keeps avoiding things and leaving areas uncleaned.+

The j7 uses a front camera to identify and steer around obstacles (cords, shoes, pet waste), so it deliberately keeps clear of them — if it is leaving too much uncleaned, tidy loose objects so it does not avoid large zones, and make sure the camera lens is clean. In the app you can review and adjust what it avoids. If it is genuinely getting stuck rather than avoiding, clear hair from the wheels and brushes and wipe the cliff sensors.

Structured depth, not empty permutations

Every published record carries a direct answer, scope, ordered fixes, risk notes and sources.
