Bosch 300 Series WAT28400 front-load washer shakes, walks or bangs during spin

Bosch 300 Series WAT28400 front-load washer shakes, walks or bangs during spin: load balance, shipping hardware, cabinet level and floor stiffness should be proved before suspension or drive repair. Scoped to WAT28400UC.

Bosch's manual gives four steps for a WAT28400UC that shakes: the washer drum suspension system shifts as the spin speed increases, so a slight shake at the speed transition is normal, and mixing small and large items minimizes it; check that the washer is level and that all four feet press equally against the floor; check that the transport bolts have been removed; and press down on each corner of the top to check for wobble: there should be no give or movement. Lock the feet with the locknuts against the washer bottom without changing the height. Keep the floor solid and the washer on a firm level surface.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Foot adjustment procedure
Have someone lift up the washer slightly to take pressure off the foot to be adjusted, turn the gray plastic foot downward as far as needed to raise that corner the correct amount, recheck by pressing each corner, and lock each adjusted foot with its locknut, holding the foot so the height does not change. All four feet should press equally against the floor.
Unbalanced load messages
E:32 alternating with END is not a fault: the unbalanced load detection interrupted the spin because the laundry is unevenly distributed. Distribute the items evenly and start an additional spin program. Repeated spinning with the Wash indicator flashing is the system trying to balance the load, which mixing sizes prevents.
Transport bolts
The transport bolts secure the drum during shipping and must be removed before the first wash; Bosch's troubleshooting table asks whether they were removed and points to the installation page for removing them. Keep them, because moving the washer without them can damage it. A washer that shakes hard from the very first cycle has almost always still got its bolts in.
