Maytag MVW7232 top-load washer will not spin or leaves clothes soaking wet

Maytag MVW7232 top-load washer will not spin or leaves clothes soaking wet: a washer normally refuses full-speed spin when it has not drained, cannot balance the load or cannot prove the door is locked. Scoped to MVW7232H*.

If a Maytag MVW7232 does not spin, or leaves clothes wet, Maytag's Product Help lists these: an out-of-balance load, which shows as noise, shaking, longer cycles and wet clothes and which the washer tries to fix by refilling and rocking the basket before showing an Ofb error; a Low Spin or No Spin choice; bulky bedding washed on Normal instead of the Bulky or Sheets/Bedding cycle; pausing to add a garment later than the Add a Garment light allows; water standing in the tub because of the drain hose (standpipe 39 in minimum, 96 in maximum, 4.5 in of hose inside); an unlevel washer; and a power failure during the spin.

Differential

Likely causes of “Maytag MVW7232 top-load washer will not spin or leaves clothes soaking wet”, and how to tell them apart

  1. 1

    An out-of-balance load

  • Whether bulky items were in the load

Try in this order

0 of 5 completed
  1. Redistribute the load

    Reversible

Arrange items evenly in loose heaps; avoid washing a single item, and add towels to balance a rug or jacket.

  2. Choose the right spin

    Reversible

Choose the right spin, using Drain and Spin for extra water removal, since lower spin speeds remove less.

  3. Use the right cycle

    Reversible

Use the right cycle, and use Bulky or Sheets and Bedding for bulky items, and not Normal or Rapid Wash.

  4. Check the drain hose

    Reversible

U-shape form, 4.5 in in the standpipe, standpipe 39 in to 96 in, not kinked.

  5. Level the washer

    Reversible

Level the washer, by rocking it corner to corner, and make sure that all four feet touch the floor.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Add a Garment and spin speed
Maytag's Product Help says to add clothes only while the Add a Garment light is on, and to touch and hold Start/Pause to restart afterwards. Pausing later in the cycle can limit the washer's ability to reach maximum spin speed. Cycles with lower spin speeds remove less water, so pick the spin for the fabric and use Drain & Spin when you need the load drier.

Exact questions

Common questions

What does Ofb mean?+

Why did my load come out wet?+

Out of balance, a low spin setting, an overloaded washer, suds or a drain problem.

Does pausing affect spin speed?+

Pausing later than the Add a Garment light allows can limit the washer's maximum spin speed.

Can a power failure stop the spin?+

If power fails during the spin the washer may not ramp up to full speed.
