Whirlpool WFW9620 front-load washer shakes, walks or bangs during spin

Whirlpool WFW9620 front-load washer shakes, walks or bangs during spin: load balance, shipping hardware, cabinet level and floor stiffness should be proved before suspension or drive repair. Scoped to WFW9620H*.

Whirlpool's Product Help for a front-loader that vibrates, walks, thumps or seems off balance starts with installation. Were the shipping bolts removed? All shipping materials must go. Are all four feet in firm contact with the floor? Grip the washer at the top and rock it front to back, then side to side; if it rocks adjust the leveling feet and tighten the jam nuts against the base of the cabinet. On a pedestal the mounting screws, the pedestal feet and the foot lock nut must be tight. Check the floor for flexing or sagging, and do not install the washer on a raised wooden platform. Then the load: do not pack it, and balance a single bulky item with a few others.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Levelling by phone
Whirlpool suggests using a phone to check that a household appliance is level, and describes a rocking test with your hands: grip the washer from the top and rock it front to back and side to side. If all four feet are in firm contact, tighten the jam nuts. The jam nuts must sit tight against the bottom of the cabinet or the washer will work loose again.
Pedestal installs
If the WFW9620 sits on a pedestal, Whirlpool's article says the pedestal's mounting screws must be tight, its feet in firm contact with the floor and the foot lock nut tight to the frame. A pedestal that has shifted turns a well-levelled washer into a shaker, so check it after any move. The washer must not be installed on a raised wooden platform, and the floor should be checked for flexing or sagging.
