Every Generac home standby generator code: what it means and what to do

Generac home standby generator code 0

Error code 0 on the display. Generac says it occurs on liquid-cooled home standby generators.

Note that this applies to liquid-cooled models.

Generac says a hard reset can be attempted, and if that does not resolve it a dealer needs to perform a firmware update. It notes firmware updates for liquid-cooled generators cannot be done over Wi-Fi or by the end user.

Generac home standby generator code 1063

A Variable Speed Constant Frequency (VSCF) mismatch. The LED is red.

Note the code and the model number on the data label.

Generac says a hard reset can be attempted, but if the issue persists a certified service technician needs to inspect the system.

Generac home standby generator code 1200 to 1207

Overspeed. The controller detects high engine RPM, which Generac says can be caused by a lean fuel condition or a sudden change in load. The LED is red.

Check the fuel type the generator is set for, and whether a large load switched off suddenly.

Generac lists common causes: a faulty RPM sensor or signal loss, governor failure, a sticking throttle or mechanical binding, incorrect frequency or voltage feedback, a faulty control board, improper wiring, backfeeding from another power source, a generator set for natural gas but running on propane (or the reverse) without proper conversion, and software or configuration faults. Its user steps: Generac says to clear the alarm and restart only after basic checks: on an Evolution controller press OFF, ENTER twice, then AUTO, and on a Power Zone 200 controller hold OFF for 3 seconds, never starting the generator under load. Contact a Generac independent authorized service dealer if the alarm returns.

Generac home standby generator code 1900 to 1916

Undervoltage. The generator is not producing proper voltage, from prolonged undervoltage or a sudden loss of voltage. The LED is red. Generac's article covers Next Generation 10-28 kW and Guardian 10-26 kW air-cooled generators.

Check that the fuel selection matches the fuel actually supplying the generator.

Generac says this is often linked to fuel supply or selection, circuitry, firmware or voltage production. A generator is designed to run on liquid propane or natural gas and can be converted in the field, so a fuel selection mismatch can cause it. Basic checks and a restart can be attempted (never under load), but Generac says the electrical nature typically needs a service dealer. Generac says to clear the alarm and restart only after basic checks: on an Evolution controller press OFF, ENTER twice, then AUTO, and on a Power Zone 200 controller hold OFF for 3 seconds.

Generac home standby generator code 2098 or 2099 (Wiring Error, Transfer Wire Warn)

Miswiring. Generac says wires are crossed, for example N1 to 194, 23 to T1, or an AC wire (N1, N2, T1) crossed with a DC wire (194, 23, 0). The error may indicate AC voltage on a DC input but will not say which wires are crossed. The LED is red.

Note the exact message and that it appeared, for example after an installation or service visit.

Generac says a certified installer should inspect the customer connections panel to make sure wires are not crossed, and that Generac support does NOT recommend end users modify or service internal generator or transfer switch wiring. It applies to air- and liquid-cooled home standby generators and automatic transfer switches.

Generac home standby generator code 2750

Low battery. Generac lists the alarm as LOW BATTERY: the battery charge level has fallen below the acceptable level. The LED is red.

Check the battery voltage at the battery and at the generator's controller.

Generac's steps: compare the DC voltage on the battery and on the controller. If the battery does not measure at least 12.5 volts DC, give it 24 hours to charge, and if that does not fix it the battery may need replacement. If it is over 12.5 volts, check the battery charger. A hard reset may clear the error. On a new installation, a missing neutral wire for the battery charger circuit can stop the battery charging and cause charger warnings. If the code persists a dealer visit may be needed.

Generac home standby generator code 2770

Charger warning. The battery is not charging properly. Generac says the warning signals a battery voltage below 12.5 volts at the end of an 18-hour charge cycle. The LED is yellow. Generac lists the potential causes as a blown T1 fuse, a charging circuit issue, or a battery that needs replacement.

Check the battery health in Mobile Link or at the controller, and check that the terminal connections are tight and not corroded.

Generac's checks: battery health, secure charging connections at the terminals, corrosion, and the T1 fuse. Generac warns it does NOT recommend untrained end users service fuses in transfer switches, because the T1 fuse is always live with 120 volts even when the generator is not running. If the warning does not clear in Mobile Link, Generac says to run the generator in Manual mode for at least one minute and then set it to AUTO. The next step is a Generac authorized service dealer.

Generac home standby generator code 2780

Charger missing AC. Generac says the T1 wire is not receiving 120 VAC, which could be an issue with the T1 wire or the T1 fuse. The LED is yellow.

Note whether there is an active outage right now.

Generac's scenarios: during an active outage with the unit running, it can occur if the automatic transfer switch did not transfer to standby when utility power was lost, so check that the MLCB (main line circuit breaker) is set to ON. Not during an outage, a qualified technician can confirm the voltage on the T1 wire, which should be 120 VAC, and inspect the T1 fuse inside the transfer switch, replacing it with the supplied fuse puller if blown. Generac says the code clears automatically once the issue is resolved.
