ADT Premium Door/Window Sensor shows the wrong time, state or sensor reading

ADT Premium Door/Window Sensor shows the wrong time, state or sensor reading: time zone, placement, calibration, stale cloud state and sensor hardware should be separated. Scoped to SSHX5R0.

The premium version of ADT's door and window sensor sends more than the open and closed state, and because different readings are sent on different schedules, a status that seems wrong is often just a reading that has not updated yet. The door state goes out the moment the magnet moves. The battery level and, on models that have it, the temperature go out at intervals to save power. That means the app can show a fresh door state next to a temperature from some minutes ago, and the two are both right.

The checks in more detail

To refresh everything, open and close the door and then pull down to refresh in the app. If a reading never updates, look at the signal indicator, since a weak link stops the periodic reports first. The physical side matters for the temperature. A sensor in direct sun, over a radiator or in a draft reads a local temperature that is not the room's, so a surprising number may be correct for the spot. Move the sensor, or the magnet side, to a place that represents the room, away from heat sources and glass in the sun.

If you rely on the reading for a freezer, fridge or a cold room, test it against a thermometer for a day and note the difference. For event times that are hours out, check the time zone of the system in the ADT app and make sure the phone is on automatic time. Replace weak batteries, because extra features use more power and a weak cell shows as late reports. If readings stay wrong after the placement, battery and link are right, remove the sensor and add it again, and contact ADT support with the sensor's model and a note of the readings you saw and the actual temperature.

Keep the original packaging details, since support will ask for the model. When you report the problem to ADT, send the sensor's model, the dates and times you saw, and a screenshot of the event history, because the support team can check the service's records for the device and tell you whether the reports reached them. A sensor whose events reach the service on time but display wrongly in the app is an app issue and often clears after an update; one whose events never reach the service is a radio or battery issue. That distinction saves a replacement you may not need.
