LG dishwasher does not clean dishes

LG dishwasher does not clean dishes: fill, circulation, spray-arm movement, loading, detergent and water temperature must all be present. Scoped to LDP6810*.

If dishes come out of the LG LDP6810 with food still on them, LG's Performance table has a short list to work through: the wrong cycle for the soil, water below 120 F, no dishwasher detergent, water pressure outside 20 to 80 psi, blocked spray-arm holes, dishes loaded so they block the spray arm or the detergent dispenser, and clogged filters. Most of these are quick to check. Start with the filters and the spray arms, since LG says clean the filter after each load for best results.

Differential

Likely causes of “LG dishwasher does not clean dishes”, and how to tell them apart

  1. 1

    Clogged filters

What separates it Food debris and grit collect in the tub and dishes come out gritty or cloudy

How to confirm Take the filters out and look; clean them with a soft brush under warm water

  2. 2

Blocked holes in the spray arms

What separates it Some dishes come out clean while others in the same rack stay soiled

How to confirm Look at the spray arm holes; LG says to clear residue with a pin or sharp tool and rinse under running water

  3. 3

Water that is too cool or at the wrong pressure

What separates it Grease and film stay on dishes and detergent does not dissolve well

How to confirm Check that the supply is at least 120 F and the pressure is between 20 and 80 psi

  4. 4

Dishes loaded so they block the spray arm or dispenser

What separates it The same pieces come out dirty every time and the arm cannot turn freely

How to confirm Turn the spray arms by hand; make sure nothing catches and the dispenser door can open

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • The cycle and options you used and the soil level of the load
  • Whether the spray arms turn freely by hand and whether their holes are blocked
  • Your water heater setting and whether the hot water tap runs hot before the dishwasher starts

  1. Pick the right cycle

    Reversible

Choose a cycle for the soil and dishware. LG's manual says improper cycle selection is the first cause of food soil left on dishes, and you do not need to pre-rinse, especially with Normal and Auto.

  2. Clean the filters

    Reversible

Remove and clean the inner and stainless steel filters under warm running water with a soft brush. LG says clogged filters leave food soil on dishes.

  3. Clean the spray arms

    Reversible

Clear food from the holes with a pin or sharp tool, rinse the arms under running water, press the upper arm up into place and turn the nut 1/8 turn clockwise. Make sure the arms rotate freely after assembly.

  4. Check water temperature and pressure

    Reversible

LG wants the supply at 120 F or more for best wash performance and 20 to 80 psi. Run the hot tap at the sink first if the dishwasher is far from the water heater.

  5. Reload and use enough detergent

    Reversible

Space dishes so they do not block the spray arm or the detergent dispenser, avoid overloading, and use the recommended dishwasher detergent amount for the soil level.

Exact questions

Common questions

Why is food left on my dishes in the LG LDP6810?+

LG lists the wrong cycle, water that is too cold, no dishwasher detergent, low pressure, blocked spray-arm holes, poor loading and clogged filters as the causes.

Do I need to pre-rinse dishes?+

No. LG says you do not need to pre-rinse, especially when using the Normal and Auto cycles.

What water temperature does the dishwasher need?+

LG gives 120 to 149 F (49 to 65 C) for the inlet water, and says at least 120 F for best wash performance.

Can loading block the wash?+

Yes. LG says dishes must not block spray arm rotation or interfere with the detergent dispenser.

Does hard water affect cleaning?+

It can leave spots and film. LG suggests less detergent, a rinse aid, an extra rinse and, for hard water, a wash booster.
