Whirlpool dishwasher will not start or respond

Whirlpool dishwasher will not start or respond: prove power, door latch, control lock, delay and Start/Resume behavior first. Scoped to WDT970SAKZ.

Whirlpool's article for a WDT970SAKZ that will not start lists six checks: water turned on (the valve fully open), Control Lock, standby or Delay Wash, door closed and latched, a 30 second power cycle, and the circuit breaker or fuse. The manual's own list is short: breaker or fuse, door closed and latched, the cycle set correctly, water on, the float switch wire under the unit connected and Control Lock off. If the door is not fully latched the dishwasher will fail to start or resume a cycle or turn on the fan; on most models you hear a click.

Try in this order

0 of 5 completed
  1. Check power

    Reversible

Look at the circuit breaker or fuse. The manual requires a 120 V 60 Hz supply on a 15 or 20 amp fused circuit.

  2. Latch the door

    Reversible

Firmly press the door closed until the latch clicks. If the door is not fully latched the dishwasher will fail to start a cycle, resume a cycle or turn on the fan.

  3. Open the water valve

  4. Check the locks and modes

    Reversible

If any button flashes the lock light three times, Control Lock is on. Cancel exits Kosher Consumer Friendly mode. To wake the dishwasher from standby or sleep open or close the door or press Start.

  5. Reset the control and check the float

    Reversible

Disconnect power for 30 seconds. Also check the float switch wire under the product is connected to the float switch.
