Samsung dryer stops before the cycle is finished

Samsung dryer stops before the cycle is finished: a stop can be sensor completion, overheating protection, door interruption or power loss. Scoped to DVE45T6000*.

If the Samsung DVE45T6000 stops in the middle of a cycle, the display usually says why. dC means the door opened, HC means the dryer detected a high drum temperature, tC and tC5 mean a thermistor reading is out of range, and 9C1 means abnormal voltage. Samsung's fix for the first three starts with the same things: latch the door, clean the lint filter and check the vent. A dryer that stops with no code may simply have reached its dryness level, or been paused by opening the door.

Differential

Likely causes of “Samsung dryer stops before the cycle is finished”, and how to tell them apart

  1. 1

The door was opened or is not latched

What separates it dC on the display and the dryer stops when the door moves

How to confirm Close the door properly and hold Start/Pause to resume

  2. 2

A clogged lint filter or duct causing a high temperature stop

What separates it HC shows on the display and the clothes are hot and damp because a clogged lint filter or duct causes a high temperature

How to confirm Clean the lint filter and run the Vent Blockage Test

  3. 3

Sensor Dry reached the selected dryness

What separates it The dryer ends with warm, dry clothes and no code

How to confirm Choose More on Dryness if you want a drier result

  4. 4

    A thermistor or voltage fault

What separates it tC, tC5 or 9C1 shows on the display because of a thermistor or voltage fault

How to confirm Clean the filter, check the vent and power, then contact service if the code stays

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • The exact code shown when the dryer stopped
  • How far into the cycle it stopped and what the load was
  • Whether the door was opened or a breaker tripped

  1. Read the display

    Reversible

Note the code before you press anything. dC is door open, HC is a high temperature heating check, tC and tC5 are thermistor resistance errors, and 9C1 is abnormal voltage.

  2. Latch the door and resume

    Reversible

Close the door firmly, then press or hold Start/Pause again. Samsung says to press Start/Pause again if the door was opened during a cycle.

  3. Clean the lint filter

    Reversible

Take out the filter and clean it. Samsung's HC and tC actions both start with the lint filter, and its Checkpoints table lists it under almost every problem.

  4. Run the Vent Blockage Test

    Reversible

With the drum empty and the dryer cool, hold Adjust Time and Dryness for 3 seconds until InS shows, then hold Start. About 2 minutes later 0 means clear; Clg, C80 or C90 mean a blocked vent.

  5. Restart with a smaller load

    Reversible

Start Time Dry with half the load. If the dryer runs the whole cycle, the stop was airflow or load size. If the code returns at the same point, note the time for the technician.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Installation check codes from the Vent Blockage Test
Clg (Cg) means the vent is clogged and to clean the lint filter; C80 (C8) means about 80 percent of the vent is clogged, which may reduce drying performance; C90 (C9) means over 90 percent clogged, which may cause poor drying or a malfunction and needs expert cleaning; Ct means the dryer's internal temperature is too low or too high for the test.

Exact questions

Common questions

Why did my dryer stop with time left?+

Check for a code. dC means the door opened; HC and tC codes mean a temperature check. With no code, Sensor Dry may have reached the dryness level.

What is the Ct check code?+

The dryer's internal temperature was too low (below 32 F) or too high (over 104 F) for the vent test. Leave it at 41 to 95 F for an hour and test again.

Does opening the door stop the cycle?+

Yes. Close the door and press Start/Pause again to resume.

What does FC mean?+

An invalid power source frequency. Try restarting the cycle and call service if it remains.

What does AC mean?+

An electronic control problem with invalid communication. Samsung says to contact a service center.

Will Wrinkle Prevent stop the drum?+

Wrinkle Prevent tumbles intermittently in unheated air for about 180 minutes after the cycle, so pauses then are normal.

How do I know the load is dry?+

When the dryer finishes a Sensor Dry cycle, the load reached the selected level. Use Damp Alert to take mixed loads out early.

Is a stopped cycle a fire risk?+

Samsung says to avoid stopping a cycle before the end unless you quickly take the items out and spread them out to dissipate heat.
