Whirlpool refrigerator is leaking water

Whirlpool refrigerator is leaking water: the first wet location separates supply/filter/valve, defrost drain, ice maker and condensation causes. Scoped to WRF757SDHZ.

Whirlpool's own guide for water around the WRF757SDHZ gives four causes with a fix each: the glass was not held under the dispenser long enough (hold it 2 to 3 seconds after releasing the paddle; a few drops after dispensing are normal), dripping beyond the first few drops after installation or a filter change (flush the water system to clear air), water leaking from the back because water line connections were not fully tightened or the doors were recently removed and the dispenser line was not retightened, and a water filter that is leaking or incompatible. Water from the freezer or under the door can also be melt from a door not sealing.

  1. Turn off the water if it is running

    Reversible

Turn off the water if it is running, by closing the shutoff valve and unplugging the refrigerator if water is near electrical parts.

  2. Check the filter

    Reversible

Confirm you are using a genuine Whirlpool-approved filter, install it fully and lock it as directed, and inspect for moisture around the cap and fittings; replace about every 6 months.

  3. Check the connections

    Reversible

Confirm the water supply line is not cracked or damaged and the tubing is firmly connected at all connection points. If the doors were removed, see Remove and Replace Refrigerator Doors and retighten the dispenser line.

Water connection notes
Whirlpool recommends copper tubing or its supply line, part number 8212547RP, and says using a connection type other than recommended can cause off tastes. Excess water line should be moved away from the cabinet or fastened to it so it does not rattle, and connections must be fully tightened after any door removal.
Vacation and Showroom modes
In Vacation Mode the freezer defrosts less often to save energy: open Options and press LOCK under Vacation to turn it on, and press LOCK there again to turn it off, which restores the earlier settings. During the first hour, opening the door does not affect it, but afterwards opening the door turns it off, and Fast Ice or a Door Ajar alarm cancels it. Showroom mode is for retail display only; if the word Showroom appears, hold LIGHT and LOCK for 3 seconds to exit.
