Electrolux ELFW7637 front-load washer will not fill with water or fills too slowly

Electrolux ELFW7637 front-load washer will not fill with water or fills too slowly: verify both water supplies, inlet screens, hose routing and the selected cycle before treating the inlet valves or pressure system as failed. Scoped to ELFW7637A*.

If water does not enter the Electrolux ELFW7637 or enters slowly, Electrolux's checklist lists: the water supply is not adequate in the area (check another faucet in the house and wait until pressure increases), the supply faucets are not completely open (fully open both), water is being used elsewhere in the house (pressure must be at least 30 psi or 260 kPa, so avoid running water elsewhere while the washer fills), the inlet hoses are kinked (straighten them) and the inlet screens are plugged (remove the hoses from the inlets and clean the screens). The reversed-hose alarm HO SE and the hot water setting (at least 120 F) also matter. Electrolux's Laundry Water Supply Guide covers the supply.

Differential

Likely causes of “Electrolux ELFW7637 front-load washer will not fill with water or fills too slowly”, and how to tell them apart

  1. 1

Faucets not fully open or a weak supply

What separates it There is a slow or absent fill because the faucets are not fully open or the supply is weak

How to confirm Fully open both faucets and check other faucets

  2. 2

Water used elsewhere in the house

What separates it The pressure is below 30 psi because water is being used elsewhere in the house

How to confirm Avoid using water elsewhere while the washer fills

  3. 3

    Kinked inlet hoses

What separates it There is a trickle because the inlet hoses are kinked

How to confirm Straighten the hoses, and try the fill again

  4. 4

    Plugged inlet screens

What separates it There is a slow fill because the inlet screens are plugged

How to confirm Remove the hoses, and clean the screens well

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • Whether the faucets are fully open
  • The pressure at other faucets in the home

Try in this order

0 of 5 completed
  1. Open the faucets

    Reversible

Open the faucets, and make sure that both are fully open, and then test again to see whether it helped.

  2. Straighten the hoses, and try the fill again

    Reversible

Straighten the hoses, and make sure that there are no kinks, and then test again to see whether it helped.

  3. Clean the screens

    Reversible

Clean the screens, by removing the hoses from the inlets and cleaning the screens, and then test again to see whether it helped.

  4. Check pressure

    Reversible

Check the pressure, which needs 30 psi minimum, with no water used elsewhere while filling.

  5. Check the hose connections

    Reversible

Check the hose connections, with hot to hot and cold to cold, and then test again to see whether it helped.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Hot water and temperatures
Electrolux's checklist says warm or hot water that is not hot enough may come from a hot water heater set too low or at a distance from the washer: measure the hot water temperature at a nearby faucet with a thermometer; it should be at least 120 F (49 C). Hot water used elsewhere before or during the wash can leave too little, and if the problem persists the hot water system may not support more than one use at a time.
Incorrect temperatures
Incorrect wash and rinse temperatures come from hot and cold hoses connected to the wrong faucets, and the LED alerts this condition with the HOSE alarm. Connect the hot water hose to the hot water faucet and the cold hose to the cold faucet, and check the connections again after any plumbing work.
