What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

- Type — TOP-LOADTOP-LOAD washer; identify agitator versus impeller for loading. HE low-water fill is normal; Deep Fill adds more.
- Signature featuresPowerWash and Deep Fill on this tier for heavy or bulky loads.
- Fault codes & lid lockF#E# codes — F5 E1 lid switch, F0 E9 off-balance, SUD suds, LOC lock. Lid must lock before spin.
- Where the MVW6200 sitsThe MVW6200 is a 4.8 cubic foot Maytag top-load washer with PowerWash and a Deep Fill option. It has no Pet Pro filter and no Extra Power button, so it is a plainer tier than the MVW6500 or MVW7230.
- What makes a Maytag foamSuds form when more detergent is present than the water can rinse away, when a non-high-efficiency detergent is used in a high-efficiency machine or when water is very soft. Foam cushions the clothes, slows the agitation and can overflow.
- SUD and the other codesThis series shows SUD when the control detects foam. It pauses the wash, adds rinses and lengthens the cycle. F5 E1 names the lid switch, F0 E9 an off-balance load and LOC a locked lid.
- Foam, rinses and long cyclesFoam climbing out of the lid, a washer that adds extra rinses, clothes left slick with soap and a cycle that runs long are the common complaints, and nearly all trace to the detergent.
- Reading the detergent bottleConcentrated liquids need a fraction of a standard dose, and labels give lines for soft, medium and hard water. Pick the line that matches your water and your load.
- Finding MVW6200 on the labelUnder the lid or on the back of the console; quote MVW6200 when contacting Maytag.
- The PowerWash featurePowerWash is Maytag's name for its stronger wash action for heavy soil. A strong action creates more foam from the same detergent, which is another reason to use a measured dose of high-efficiency detergent rather than a generous capful.
- After a foam spillWipe the lid and the top of the cabinet, run a rinse and spin and then a hot cleaning cycle with a washer cleaner so that no soap film is left in the tub. Check the next wash with half the usual dose.

Exact questions
Questions that only have an answer for the Maytag MVW6200 top-load washer
My Maytag MVW6200 lid is locked and won't open.+
The lid locks during the wash and especially during spin for safety, and stays locked briefly after the cycle until the drum stops. Wait a minute after it finishes. If it stays locked, power-cycle the washer (unplug a minute) to release a stuck lock, and confirm it actually finished draining and spinning down. A LOC indicator is the control lock (child lock) — hold the control-lock button a few seconds to clear that.
Why is my Maytag MVW6200 full of suds?+
Too much detergent, or a detergent not made for high-efficiency machines.
What does SUD mean?+
The control detected foam and is rinsing.
Is soft water a factor?+
Yes, soft water foams more.
Why will the lid not open?+
It stays locked briefly after the cycle until the drum stops.
Can a splash of vinegar help?+
Follow the manual; do not mix vinegar with bleach or other cleaners.
