- Fault codes & lid lockF#E# codes — F5 E1 lid switch, F0 E9 off-balance, SUD suds. Lid must lock before spin.
- Where the MVW6500 sitsThe MVW6500 is a 4.7 cubic foot Maytag top-load washer with a Pet Pro filter and Pet Pro wash option that traps pet hair, a built-in water faucet for pretreating, a Deep Fill option and Advanced Vibration Control. It is not smart or app-connected.
- Emptying the Pet Pro filterThe filter catches hair and lint that would otherwise stay in the water. It does its job only if it is emptied; a full filter holds damp debris that sours the wash water and the tub.
- Using the built-in faucetThe faucet over the tub is a short water line with a valve. Water sitting in the line after the last use can develop a stale smell, so run it for a few seconds before pretreating.
- F5 E1, F0 E9 and SUDF#E# codes: F5 E1 names the lid switch, F0 E9 an off-balance load and SUD excess suds. The lid must lock before the spin.
- Odor after time awayA large drum left shut for a week with damp laundry or standing water develops a smell quickly, and the first load washed afterwards carries it.
- Finding MVW6500 on the labelUnder the lid or on the back of the console; quote MVW6500 and the serial number.
- Advanced Vibration ControlThe MVW6500's vibration control damps the tub movement on the spin, so a washer that suddenly shakes or bangs after years of quiet running points to a load or levelling problem, or to worn damping parts, rather than the design.
- Washing pet beddingThe Pet Pro wash option is designed for hair-heavy loads. After such a load, empty the filter and run a quick rinse, because a tub that holds hair stays damp and sours quickly.

Exact questions
Questions that only have an answer for the Maytag MVW6500 top-load washer
Clothes come out tangled in my Maytag MVW6500.+
Loading is the usual cause. On an agitator model, do not wind sheets and long items around the post or load above its top; on an impeller model, spread items loosely and evenly around the plate. Do not overload, and use the PowerWash or correct cycle for the fabric. Tangling is far more often a loading habit than a machine fault.
Why does my Maytag MVW6500 smell?+
A full Pet Pro filter, residue or damp left in a closed drum.
How often do I empty the Pet Pro filter?+
After washes with pet hair, and at least monthly.
Do I need a technician?+
No, cleaning usually removes it.
What cleaner can I use?+
A washer cleaner made for top-loaders.
Does the Pet Pro filter need replacing?+
It is cleaned, not replaced, as the manual describes.
