Maytag MVW7232 top-load washer uses very little water or the water level looks wrong

Maytag MVW7232 top-load washer uses very little water or the water level looks wrong: high-efficiency washers may not submerge the load; dry items, poor turnover or a fill code—not appearance alone—indicate a fault. Scoped to MVW7232H*.

The Maytag MVW7232 chooses its own water level, and Maytag's Product Help says the load size, the cycle and its modifiers set it: there is no water-level selector on non-agitator models like this one, which use a low-water wash plate system. Clothes settle as they are wetted, and that does not mean you should add more items. Do not add more water: the impeller and the clothes have to engage, because too much water floats the load and weakens cleaning. The Bulky cycle fills in stages and can take 10 to 12 minutes, and the monthly Clean Washer cycle re-calibrates the control to its factory-set water levels.

How to confirm Wait for up to ten to twelve minutes, while the Bulky cycle fills in stages

  3. 3

What separates it A different level and time after choosing a new cycle

How to confirm Check Soil Level, Spin Speed and Temperature after choosing the cycle

  4. 4

    Control needing re-calibration

What separates it The level seems lower than when the washer was new because the control needs re-calibration

How to confirm Run the Clean Washer cycle with affresh, which re-calibrates the water levels

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • The cycle and the modifiers that you chose
  • Whether the level rises later in the wash
  • When the Clean Washer cycle was last run

0 of 5 completed
  1. Do not add water

    Reversible

Do not add water, since the impeller must engage the clothes, and extra water floats them and weakens the cleaning.

  2. Load in loose heaps

    Reversible

Place items in loose heaps evenly around the wash plate and leave the center uncovered.

  3. Give the Bulky cycle time

    Reversible

Give the Bulky cycle time, since it fills in stages while agitating and can take ten to twelve minutes.

  4. Check the settings

    Reversible

Once you select a cycle, default modifiers apply; change Soil Level, Spin Speed or Temperature if you want.

  5. Run Clean Washer

    Reversible

About monthly or every 30 cycles with affresh; it re-calibrates the control to factory water levels.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Non-agitator wash plate
The MVW7232 uses a low-water wash plate system in place of a tall agitator, and Maytag's article says the washer adjusts the water level automatically to the load. For best results load items in loose heaps around the wash plate and leave the center uncovered. As the washer wets and moves the load the items settle in the basket; Maytag says this is normal and does not mean more items should be added.
