Apple MacBook Air (M2) will not charge

Apple MacBook Air (M2) will not charge: adapter wattage, cable, port/dock, battery temperature and firmware should be separated. Scoped to 2022/2023 M2.

The MacBook Air M2 gives you three ways to charge it, and each fails differently. MagSafe 3 is the magnetic port on the left; there are two USB-C Thunderbolt ports as well, and any of them can charge the Air from a USB-C power adapter. An M2 Air that does not charge might have a bad cable or adapter, a dirty port, or a software setting, and one iFixit thread describes an M2 Air where both MagSafe and the USB-C ports stopped working, which points at the board.

Apple's order is: check the outlet, try the other port, test another cable and adapter, rest the adapter for sixty seconds, and look at the wattage, because the Air M2 with the 10-core GPU is sold with a 35 W dual-port or a 67 W adapter and charges slowly on a phone-sized brick.
