• What owners run into
  After several years the battery has lost capacity, apps hide behind the notch, and the Air slows under long tasks without a fan. Some units show Wi-Fi drops after macOS updates.

• Is a battery service worth it
  If Battery Health shows below about 80 percent or the Air shuts down at 20 percent, a battery service restores the runtime for much less than a new Mac. Apple and many repair shops do it, and the Air's thin design means a proper repair is worth paying for. Back up before the service.
• Updating safely
  Before a macOS update, back up with Time Machine, plug in the charger and close other apps. Let the update finish without interruption. If the Air stalls on the Apple logo afterwards, hold the power button for the startup options and reinstall macOS from Recovery, which keeps your files. Check Battery Health after the update to see whether the cell has aged.
• Accessories that suit it
  A new MagSafe cable is cheap if yours has frayed, and a USB-C hub adds ports for a mouse, a display and storage. A sleeve protects against scratches, and a stand lifts the Air for cooling. Check cases are made for the M2's body, which is different from the older Air. A battery service from Apple or a shop gives the best boost to a worn Air.
• The redesigned Air
  The M2 MacBook Air of 2022 was the first Air with the flat-edged design, a notched display, MagSafe charging and a 1080p camera, and it too has no fan. Owners notice the notch hiding menu items on full-screen apps, and the case warming under load. It has two USB-C ports on the left and a headphone jack on the right, so an owner with a dock, a display and a charger can run short of ports, and a charger left in MagSafe frees a port. Keep the screen clean with a soft cloth since the keyboard marks can transfer to it when the lid is closed, and use a thin cover rather than a thick one over the keys.
• Looking after the battery
  The battery lasts best when the laptop is kept between moderate charge levels, and macOS has an optimized charging setting that learns your routine. Avoid leaving it in a hot car, and update macOS regularly because power and thermal behavior improve in updates. Apple Diagnostics and Settings, Battery, Battery Health show wear, and a battery replacement through Apple or an authorized provider restores run time.
