Generac generator code 1100 or 1101: overcrank

Photograph the alarm, note whether it happened during an exercise cycle or an outage, and note the LP tank level if the generator runs on propane.

Verify the fuel line shutoff valve is ON. Check that the fuel selection matches the fuel actually supplying the unit: it runs on natural gas or LP, set at installation in the controller menu and by the fuel jet orientation on Guardian series, or in the Field Pro app on Next Generation models with a Power Zone 200 controller. On LP, Generac says fuel pressure may be affected once the level drops below 30 percent, and on natural gas the grid can be affected by outages or construction. Look at the clearance and airflow around the unit, check the air filter, and confirm the scheduled maintenance is done.

Correct only what you can prove: open a closed shutoff valve, refill LP, clear a blocked air intake or replace an overdue air filter, then clear the alarm and restart the unit in MANUAL. Generac says fuel pressure checks need specialized equipment and safety precautions, so they must be done by a professional. It compares the process to checking a low tire: rule out the shutoff valve, fuel levels and air intake first, then ask the dealer whether to contact the gas supplier about pressure.

Never start a generator while it is under load. After the restart in MANUAL confirm the engine runs steadily with the loads removed, and follow Generac's guidance for restarting during an outage before returning the house to generator power.
