Find the model number on a label inside the door frame or behind the filter. Convection models have an extra heater and fan with their own codes, and the vent fan and cooktop light have theirs. A padlock icon is the control lock, which clears with a held key.
Unplug the microwave for a minute and check the door closes without a plate edge catching it. For a sensor-cook code, make sure the interior is dry and the sensor is not blocked by a splash. For a code on a convection model, check which mode you were in when it appeared.
Stop for sparking, burning smells and never open the case, because the capacitor stays charged.
A KitchenAid convection microwave has a heater and a fan that a plain one lacks, so its owners meet codes for them. E13, E23 and E24 mean the convection oven did not preheat, did not reach preheat temperature within thirty minutes, or overheated; let it cool, reset the power and arrange service because the heater, the sensors and the control board are all involved. FC E1 and Registration Error mean the microwave could not connect to the router. Door, Open or Close Door, PF, LOC and Demo Mode are status messages rather than faults.
Convection microwaves also bake, so a KitchenAid convection microwave can fail as a microwave, as an oven or as a hood.
