KitchenAid error codes by appliance

KitchenAid builds dishwashers, ranges, wall ovens and over-the-range microwaves that report faults with a code on the display, and this library gives each of those four its own directory. Open the one that matches your appliance: the dishwasher directory lists the F codes and flashing-light patterns; the range and wall oven directories list the oven control codes, the sensor and fan codes and the plain messages; and the microwave directory lists the E codes, the convection codes and the status messages.

KitchenAid appliances reward a correct diagnosis, because they are premium machines and the parts, such as a sensor, a fan motor or a drain pump, are modest compared with a replacement. That is why the directories here separate the checks you can do yourself, such as clearing a filter, reseating a probe or levelling the dishwasher, from the faults that need a technician. Find the model number first: on a dishwasher it is along the tub edge, on a range or wall oven on the frame behind the door, on a microwave inside the door frame.

Two things are worth knowing about KitchenAid specifically. Combination wall ovens have a microwave section with its own codes, so check which cavity the code belongs to; and convection models add a fan and heater that a conventional oven does not have, so a code that appears only in convection points at that circuit.

Whatever the appliance, a KitchenAid fault is easiest to diagnose when you can say what it was doing when it stopped. A dishwasher that stopped with water in the tub is a drain or a pump problem; one that stopped dry is a fill or a valve. A range that showed a code after a clean cycle is a lock or a sensor; one that showed it at power-up is a board or a key. Write that one sentence down with the code and the model number, and the directory pages will take you straight to the right check.

If more than one KitchenAid appliance in a kitchen reports a code at the same time, suspect the power before you suspect the appliances. A flicker, a tripped breaker or a bad shared circuit can post a code on a dishwasher, a range and a microwave together, and a reset of the breaker clears all of them. If only one appliance reports, the directory for that appliance is where the answer is.
