Which units this covers, and how to tell yours is one of them
Every answer below is scoped to these model identifiers. A neighbouring model in the same line can use a different part, a different reset sequence or a different radio, so matching the identifier before following a procedure is the step that decides whether the rest of the page applies to you.

What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.
- No air quality monitor
- ecobee's own page for this model makes no mention of air quality, PM2.5, VOC or CO2 sensing anywhere — that capability exists only on the Premium. An Enhanced unit that never shows an air-quality reading is working as designed, not malfunctioning.
- SmartSensor sold separately
- The page states it "works with SmartSensors (sold separately)" and the in-box contents are the thermostat, mounting plate, Power Extender Kit and trim plate — no sensor included. Room-level sensing needs a separate purchase and pairing step before it will do anything.
- No built-in speaker or mic
- Unlike the Premium, ecobee does not list a microphone, built-in Alexa, Siri support or intercom for this model. It still integrates with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit as a smart-home device through the app, but there is no voice hardware in the thermostat itself to troubleshoot.
- Display and build
- Same 4 in., 540 x 540 pixel color touchscreen as the Premium, described as 50% larger than previous ecobee models, but in a thinner 23.88mm-deep body without the Premium's die-cast metal frame.
- Connectivity
- Dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n at 2.4GHz, 802.11 a/n/ac at 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, and a 915MHz radio for SmartSensor communication — identical radio spec to the Premium, so a Wi-Fi or pairing problem is diagnosed the same way on either model.
- Power and HVAC
- Wired 24VAC through C and Rc terminals, up to 3.5VA draw, with an included Power Extender Kit. Supports 2H/2C conventional systems and heat pumps with only 1-stage auxiliary heat — one stage fewer than the Premium — plus boilers and PTAC units.
- Wi-Fi
- Joins on 2.4 GHz. A phone on 5 GHz cannot hand credentials to it reliably during setup, and a router that steers clients between bands under one network name will produce intermittent joins that look like a hardware fault.
- Power path
- Drawn from the HVAC control wiring. A dedicated common wire supplies continuous power; without one, the thermostat charges from the heating circuit and can hold enough charge for the display while failing at sustained radio use.

Exact questions
Questions that only have an answer for the ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced
Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.
Why doesn't my Enhanced thermostat show an air quality reading?+
It has no air quality sensor at all — that feature exists only on the Smart Thermostat Premium. This isn't a broken sensor or a setting to enable; the Enhanced hardware doesn't include one.
Does the Smart Thermostat Enhanced come with a SmartSensor?+
No. ecobee's own page lists SmartSensors as sold separately for this model, and the box contents don't include one — unlike the Premium, which ships with one. Room-level balancing needs a separate purchase.
Can I use Alexa with my Enhanced thermostat?+
Yes, but through the app and a separate Alexa device — the Enhanced has no built-in microphone or speaker the way the Premium does. If you're expecting to talk directly to the thermostat, that capability is Premium-only.
How is the Enhanced different from the Premium physically?+
Same 4-inch, 540x540 touchscreen, but the Enhanced is 23.88mm deep versus the Premium's 25.9mm, because it doesn't have the Premium's die-cast metal frame.
My heat pump's second auxiliary heat stage isn't coming on.+
Check the model first: the Enhanced supports only 1-stage auxiliary heat on a heat pump system, against 2 stages on the Premium. A second stage that never activates on an Enhanced unit is expected, not a fault.
