What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
- Air quality monitorEcobee states a built-in air quality monitor that alerts when air quality is poor and offers improvement tips. This is the feature that sets Premium apart from Enhanced, which has no air quality sensing at all — an air-quality complaint on an Enhanced unit is a false expectation, not a fault.
- Included SmartSensorShips with one SmartSensor in the box, over a dedicated 915MHz radio. Enhanced sells SmartSensors separately and includes none — so room-level temperature balancing works on a Premium out of the box, and does not on an Enhanced until one is bought and paired.
- Built-in speaker and micHas a built-in microphone with Alexa built in, and Siri support via a HomePod or HomePod mini. It also does intercom — sending a voice message to a HomePod mini or Alexa device elsewhere in the house — and streams Spotify Connect, Amazon Music or Bluetooth audio through its own speaker. Enhanced has none of this; a request to "talk to" the thermostat only makes sense on Premium.

What does the Premium have that the Enhanced doesn't?+
An air quality monitor, a SmartSensor included in the box (Enhanced sells them separately), and a built-in speaker/mic with Alexa, Siri, Spotify/Amazon Music streaming and intercom to other Alexa or HomePod devices. Enhanced has none of the audio or air-quality features.
Why is my air quality alert only on one of my two ecobee thermostats?+
Because only the Premium has an air quality monitor — Enhanced units cannot report air quality at all. If the two are different models, that is expected, not a fault on the Enhanced unit.
Does the Smart Thermostat Premium come with a SmartSensor?+
Yes, one is included in the box, communicating over ecobee's dedicated 915MHz radio. The Enhanced model ships without one; SmartSensors for it are a separate purchase.
Can I talk to my ecobee thermostat?+
Only on the Premium, which has a built-in microphone and speaker with Alexa built in (and Siri via a HomePod or HomePod mini nearby). It can also send an intercom message to another Alexa or HomePod device in the house. The Enhanced has no microphone or speaker for this.
How many stages of auxiliary heat does the Premium support?+
Two stages of auxiliary heat on a heat pump system (2H/2C + 2-stage AUX), one more than the Enhanced's single stage — relevant when a heat pump's backup heat isn't staging the way the installer expects.
