What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.
- Device — smart SPEAKER (no screen)
- A full-size smart SPEAKER (no display) with richer sound than the Mini, powered by Google Assistant for music, questions and smart-home control. Mains powered. Symptoms are audio/assistant/Wi-Fi, not screen or camera.
- Stereo pairing & groups
- Two Nest Audios can be a stereo pair, and it can join speaker groups for multi-room audio — if only one plays, check the pair/group setup in the Google Home app. No microphone/camera privacy switch beyond the mic mute for the assistant.
- Assistant & platform
- Runs on Google Assistant via the Google Home app; some Assistant features are shifting to Gemini over time via updates.
- Power path
- Mains adapter into a standard outlet. Switched outlets and outlets on a circuit that trips are the two failure modes that present as device faults. Use the supplied adapter — third-party adapters that supply the right voltage at the wrong current are a common cause of intermittent restarts.
- Wi-Fi
- Joins on 2.4 GHz. A phone on 5 GHz cannot hand credentials to it reliably during setup, and a router that steers clients between bands under one network name will produce intermittent joins that look like a hardware fault.
- Microphone
- Carries a microphone with a hardware mute. A muted microphone is a physical switch state that no app setting overrides, and is the first thing to check for any voice or audio symptom.

Questions that only have an answer for the Nest Audio
Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.
My Nest Audio stopped responding to 'Hey Google'.+
Check the microphone mute switch on the back — if the mic is muted (there is an indicator light), the speaker will not hear the hotword, and this is the most common cause. Un-mute it. Then confirm the Nest Audio is on Wi-Fi and online in the Google Home app, that Voice Match is set up for your voice, and that it is updated. Restarting the speaker (unplug briefly) clears a stuck assistant. If it plays music but ignores commands, the mic mute or Voice Match is almost always why.
