What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

• Battery
  Two AAA batteries, included, rated for a minimum 2-year life.
• Indoor only — IP42
  Rated IP42, which is an indoor rating. Philips sells a separate Hue Outdoor Motion Sensor at IP54 for exterior use — an indoor sensor mounted outside is being used outside its rating, not malfunctioning in bad weather.
• Built-in light sensor
  Beyond motion, it has a daylight sensor that can be configured with a light-level threshold so lights don't turn on when it's already bright enough. A motion sensor that "isn't triggering" in daylight may be doing exactly what its daylight threshold is set to do.
• Mounting and range
  Wall or standing mount with a magnetic back for flexible placement. Philips notes that mounting height affects coverage — placed higher, it detects motion across a wider area — which is the first thing to check when detection feels inconsistent from one spot to another.
• Radio
  Zigbee and Bluetooth to the Bridge/system, with no independent network connection — the same pattern as other Hue accessories, so a sensor that stops reporting is a Bridge or pairing question before it's a sensor fault.
• Connection
  Zigbee and Bluetooth. It works without Wi-Fi, and a Hue Bridge adds up to 12 accessories and the voice-assistant links.
• Apps
  Hue app on Android 10+ or iOS 16+, and it works with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, Matter, SmartThings and Sonos.
• Questions Hue answers
  How to add it, where to place it, how many lights it controls, what Do not disturb does, what happens when the room is already bright, how to adjust detection, and how to return it to factory settings.
• Placement and sensitivity
  A Hue motion sensor detects movement by heat, so it works best mounted about two meters high or on a flat surface pointed across the room, rather than at a window or a heater. Direct sunlight, a radiator or a warm draft can set it off, and a sensor with a clear view of a doorway usually gives the most reliable result.
• Daylight, battery and the bridge
  The sensor has a daylight setting that stops it switching lights on when the room is already bright, and it runs on two AAA batteries that can last up to two years. If lights fail to react, check the daylight threshold in the Hue app first, then the batteries, and then whether the sensor is still within range of the bridge or a Hue light that can pass its signal on.
