Not a light and not a hub

It reads the video/audio signal from an HDMI source and sends sync data to a Hue Bridge, which then instructs compatible lights how to react. Its problems are HDMI handshake, resolution and source problems — a light that won't sync is very often not a lighting fault at all.

HDMI capability

HDMI 2.1 certified with 4 ports, passing through up to 8K at 60Hz, 4K at 120Hz, 4K at 60Hz, or 1080p at 120Hz, plus HDR10+, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos passthrough. A picture or sound problem that also shows on the TV without the sync box in the chain is a source/cable/TV issue, not this device.

Device and light limits

Connects up to 4 HDMI source devices directly (game consoles, streaming boxes, set-top boxes), and can link up to 10 Hue lights to sync with the video.

Requires a Hue Bridge

Works with both the standard Hue Bridge and the Bridge Pro — it has no independent light-control logic of its own, so a Bridge outage takes light sync down with it even though the sync box itself is fine.

Power

100-240V AC input through a 12V DC adapter, drawing about 7W in operation and 0.8W in standby.

Power path

Mains adapter into a standard outlet. Switched outlets and outlets on a circuit that trips are the two failure modes that present as device faults. Use the supplied adapter — third-party adapters that supply the right voltage at the wrong current are a common cause of intermittent restarts.

Wi-Fi

Joins on 2.4 GHz. A phone on 5 GHz cannot hand credentials to it reliably during setup, and a router that steers clients between bands under one network name will produce intermittent joins that look like a hardware fault.
