VIZIO TV line will not connect to Wi-Fi or keeps disconnecting

VIZIO TV line (Quantum Pro, Quantum, M-Series, V-Series and OLED) will not connect to Wi-Fi or keeps disconnecting: TV radio versus router band/security/signal and provider service should be separated. Scoped to VQP65/75C-84.

VIZIO's Wi-Fi article gives the sequence. Press Menu or Gear, choose All Settings if shown, then Network, pick your own network name, enter the password or WPA2 passphrase and select Connect. Passwords are case-sensitive and different from your email, streaming or VIZIO account passwords; find it on the router label, your provider's app or a device already connected. Test another device to see whether the network works: if none connect, restart the modem and router and contact your provider;

The checks in more detail

if others connect but the TV cannot find the network, restart the TV and router and scan again. Restart the modem and router by unplugging for at least ten seconds, plugging the modem in first, then power cycle the TV by unplugging for five seconds and holding its Power button five seconds. To improve the signal, move the TV closer, put the router in an open central place away from microwaves, cordless phones, baby monitors and metal, and try the 2.4 GHz network, which usually has better range.

If the TV says the password is wrong, re-enter it carefully, use Forget Network and reselect it. If connected with no internet, test another device, restart everything, check for an outage and reconnect. DHCP: Menu, All Settings, Network, Manual Setup, DHCP; if off, turn it on, and if on, toggle it. Shared networks in dorms and hotels may need a sign-in page the TV cannot open, so ask the administrator. An onn Roku TV uses Roku's network menus.

A TV that connects but has no internet is a different fault from one that will not connect, and the test is whether a phone on the same network can load a page. Note the time of day the drops happen, since evening congestion on a shared router is a common hidden cause. After a router restart wait a full ten minutes before judging the result, because some routers take that long to hand out addresses again.
