VIZIO TVs: SmartCast sets, the Quantum range and the OLED
VIZIO sells its televisions through large retailers, and the directory lists the models that this site has detailed guides for. The range is simple to read: the V-Series and M-Series sets are everyday LCD televisions, the Quantum models add a quantum-dot color film and a brighter backlight, and the OLED-H1 uses a self-lit panel with no backlight. Knowing which of the three you own tells you what a normal picture looks like, because blooming around bright objects belongs to an LCD and never to an OLED.
Every current VIZIO runs SmartCast, a platform with the main streaming apps built in and a casting feature for phones. Most complaints come down to a few causes: an app that has lost its login after an update, a Wi-Fi link that fails after the TV has been in standby, a picture that looks dim because an energy-saving or ambient-light setting is on, and a remote that has lost its pairing. Each guide starts with the checks that cost nothing, such as the cable, the input and the setting, before it suggests a reset.
The model number is on a label on the back of the TV and in the system information screen under System, then Reset and Admin. Write it down before you call VIZIO, since support will ask for it together with the serial number and the date of purchase. A set under warranty should not be opened or repaired by anyone who is not authorized, and a cracked panel or a flickering screen after a knock is a repair question, not a settings one.
Where is the model number on a VIZIO TV?
On a label on the back of the TV and in the system information screen.
What is the difference between the Quantum and the OLED?
The Quantum is an LCD with a quantum-dot film and a backlight, while the OLED-H1 lights each pixel itself, so it has no backlight to cause halos.
Why does my VIZIO lose its apps?
An update or a network change can sign an app out, and signing in again or resetting the network usually restores it.
