GE dishwasher smells bad or musty

GE dishwasher smells bad or musty: food soil, filter/sump residue, drain backflow and long idle periods should be separated from electrical odor. Scoped to PDT785S*.

GE dishwasher smells bad or musty: for odors in the GE Profile PDT785, the manual gives four separate answers. A slight odor during the dry portion the first time Dry Boost is used comes from heating new parts, is normal and disappears in a short time. For a dishwasher that smells stale, the UltraFresh option runs a smart algorithm that works continuously, with the fan, water valve and drain pump running at intervals, and it can be turned on or off with its pad. To clean and deodorise the interior, use citric acid (kit WD35X151), Cascade Platinum Dishwasher Cleaner or Finish Dishwasher Cleaner, which break up mineral deposits and remove hard water film and stains.

  1. Recognize the new-parts odor

    Reversible

GE says a slight odor from the unit during the dry portion of a cycle is normal the first time Dry Boost is used and disappears in a short time.

  2. Clean the filters

    Reversible

Inspect and clean the filters every other month or more depending on usage. Rinse them with warm soapy water and a sponge.

  3. Clean the interior

  5. Check the air gap

    Reversible

A clogged air gap leaves water standing; clean it as the Care and Cleaning section shows.
