LG dishwasher cycle takes too long

LG dishwasher cycle takes too long: sensor wash, heating delays, water temperature and repeated fill/drain correction can extend time. Scoped to LDP6810*.

A long cycle on the LG LDP6810 is often not a fault: the display shows an ESTIMATED time that LG says does not include delays for heating water, and the real time varies with the soil level of the load. The manual also says hot inlet water of 120 to 149 F gives the best wash and the shortest cycle time, so cold water makes a cycle run long. If the dishwasher is far from the water heater, run the hot tap at the sink first. Extra Dry, High Temp and a Delay Start also change the time shown.

Differential

Likely causes of “LG dishwasher cycle takes too long”, and how to tell them apart

  1. 1

Cold inlet water that has to be heated

What separates it The cycle runs far longer than the display estimated and the wash starts late

How to confirm Run the hot tap at the sink first and check the water heater setting

  2. 2

    A heavily soiled load

What separates it The estimated time is stretched and the cycle keeps extending

How to confirm Choose a cycle for the soil level; LG says cycle time varies with soil

  3. 3

    Options that add time

What separates it You selected High Temp, Steam, Extra Dry or Night Dry

How to confirm Check which options are lit; LG says the total shown includes the options selected

  4. 4

    A Delay Start setting

What separates it The display counts hours instead of the usual minutes

How to confirm Check whether Delay Start is on; LG says the display then shows the delay time in hours

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • The cycle and options selected, and the time the display first showed
  • How long the cycle actually took and whether it started with hot water
  • Whether Delay Start was set and whether any code appeared

Try in this order

  1. Read what the display is showing

    Reversible

The digital display shows the estimated cycle time, and LG says it does not include delay times for heating water. With Delay Start on, it shows the delay in hours.

  2. Check the water temperature

    Reversible

LG says a hot supply of 120 to 149 F gives the shortest cycle time. If the dishwasher is far from the water heater, run the hot tap in the sink before starting.

  3. Check the options

    Reversible

High Temp, Steam, Extra Dry and Night Dry each add time or heat. Turn off the ones you do not need for a normal load.

  4. Choose the cycle for the load

    Reversible

Match the cycle to soil level and dishware. LG says cycle time may vary depending on the soil level of your load.

  5. Clean the filters

    Reversible

Clogged filters slow washing and draining. Clean them and check for OE, since draining problems stretch a cycle.

Exact questions

Common questions

Why does my LG dishwasher take so long?+

The time on the display is an estimate that does not include delays for heating water, and cold inlet water, a heavy load or added options make it longer.

What water temperature gives the shortest cycle?+

LG says a hot supply of 120 to 149 F (49 to 65 C) gives the best washing results and shortest cycle time.

Does Delay Start change the display?+

Yes. If Delay Start is selected the display shows the delay time in hours.

Does the soil level change the time?+

Yes. LG says cycle time may vary depending on the soil level of your load.

What is the Auto cycle?+

The manual lists Auto among the cycles for which pre-rinsing is not needed, and it adjusts to the load.

Does the dishwasher tell me when it is done?+

Yes. A chime sounds and the display shows ENd until the door is opened or Power is pressed.
