Unlike Bosch, this Whirlpool has an exposed heating element at the bottom of the tub for heated drying, so a lightweight plastic item that falls off the rack onto the tub floor can melt against it. Keep plastics on the upper racks, make sure nothing has fallen through to the tub bottom before starting, and if you use the heated-dry option, place only dishwasher-safe items. It is not a fault — it is the heated-dry element doing its job.
