GE refrigerators: side-by-side, cooling and ice

A warm fridge side comes from a worn gasket, a door ajar, blocked vents from the freezer side or a dirty condenser coil. Food that freezes in the fridge means the setting is too cold or food is against the vents. An ice maker or a dispenser fault traces to the water line, the filter and the freezer temperature. An odor comes from spoiled food, a clogged drain, a dirty drip pan or an old filter.

GE puts the label on the inside wall of the fresh-food compartment. Replace the water filter about every six months, vacuum the coil underneath twice a year, and keep a gap between food and the vents.

GE refrigerators in this directory include French-door, side-by-side and top-freezer models, and the layout matters because the cooling faults differ. A French-door or side-by-side model with an ice and water dispenser has a water filter and a fill tube that can freeze, while a plain top-freezer has neither.
