LG refrigerator water dispenser is slow or not working

LG refrigerator water dispenser is slow or not working: separate household supply, filter, air after replacement, frozen line and switch/valve faults. Scoped to LRMVS3006*.

If the water dispenser on the LG LRMVS3006 gives little or nothing, LG's Water chapter names the cause by symptom: slow water means an exhausted filter, low house pressure or a reverse osmosis unit; no water means a locked dispenser panel, the wrong dispenser mode, an open door, a kinked line or a closed valve. After a new install or filter change LG wants about 2.5 gallons flushed to clear air, in 30-second bursts. Warm water in the first glass is normal after the dispenser sits.

Before you touch a setting

  • When the water filter was last changed and whether the icon is lit
  • Whether the dispenser panel shows a lock icon and whether an RO system is fitted

Try in this order

  1. Unlock the dispenser and pick water

    Reversible

Press and hold Lock for three seconds to unlock. LG says the dispenser can be set for ice or water, so press the Water button before pressing the paddle with a glass.

  2. Close every door

    Reversible

LG says water and ice will not dispense if any refrigerator door is left open, so check both fresh food doors and the freezer drawer.

  3. Check the supply line and valve

    Reversible

Look for a kink where the tubing goes to the house valve, since it can kink when the refrigerator is moved. Open the shutoff valve fully.

  4. Flush after a filter change

    Reversible

Dispense about 2.5 gallons (10 liters), about five minutes, in cycles of 30 seconds on and 60 seconds off, to clear trapped air and contaminants.

  5. Replace an exhausted filter

    Reversible

LG says to replace it about every six months, when the icon is lit or when output drops. Then hold the Water Filter button for three seconds to switch the icon off.

Exact questions

Common questions

Why is my dispenser water slow?+

LG lists an exhausted water filter, low house pressure and a reverse osmosis system, and says to check the filter first.

Why is the first glass warm?+

LG says if the dispenser has not been used for several hours the first glass may be warm, and to discard the first 10 oz (300 ml).

How much water is the storage tank?+

LG says the water storage capacity ranges from about 20 to 30 oz (600 to 900 ml), depending on the model.

Do I need to flush a new filter?+

Yes. Dispense 2.5 gallons (10 liters), about five minutes, but not all at once: 30 seconds on and 60 seconds off.

Why will nothing dispense?+

The dispenser panel may be locked, the mode may be set to ice, a door may be open, the line may be kinked or the valve closed.

Can I connect it to hot water?+

No. LG says connect to a cold water pipe; a hot water connection may damage the icemaker.

What if the water tastes bad?+

LG says sulfur minerals in the supply or an exhausted filter can cause taste and odor. A filter may help, though it may not remove everything.

What is Measured Fill?+

A function that dispenses premeasured amounts of water. Choose an amount, press the paddle and release it to stop.
