  A front-load washer likes a balanced mixed load. A single heavy item, such as a bedspread, can throw the drum off balance and trigger long spins or an unbalanced load message. Add a couple of towels to even it out.
• Seals and smells
  Mold smells come from a damp seal and drawer. Wipe the seal with a dry cloth after use, leave the door open and run an empty hot cycle with a washing machine cleaner once a month.

  The EFLS617 offers a range of cycles, including a quick wash and an option for heavy soil. Longer cycles on front-loaders are normal, because they use less water and heat. A time shown at the start is an estimate that changes as the sensors read the load.

  Check the inlet hoses behind the washer every year for bulges and cracks, and replace them if they look worn. Reinforced hoses last longer. Turn off the taps if you go away for long, which protects against a burst hose.

  The manual for the EFLS617 and its parts list are on Electrolux's support site. The most common parts people order are the door seal, the pump filter cap and the inlet hoses. A warranty claim needs the purchase receipt and the model and serial numbers on the rating plate.
• Good habits for a long life
  Measure detergent rather than pouring, since too much leaves residue and strains the pump. Keep the drain hose free of kinks, run the machine empty with a cleaner now and then and stop the washer from standing on a soft floor. A level, solid base reduces vibration and wear on the bearings, which are the most expensive part to replace.
