Haier HLC1700 washer/dryer combo will not spin or leaves clothes soaking wet

Haier HLC1700 washer/dryer combo will not spin or leaves clothes soaking wet: a washer normally refuses full-speed spin when it has not drained, cannot balance the load or cannot prove the door is locked. Scoped to HLC1700A*.

A Haier HLC1700AXW that will not spin usually cannot drain, and Haier's own article puts it plainly: the washer will not spin if it cannot drain properly or if the pump filter is clogged, even when it appears to be draining. Check that the drain pump filter is clear (reached through the door at the bottom of the unit), that the drain hose is not pushed too far into the standpipe (siphon) and that it is not kinked or crimped. The Unb message means an unbalanced load: spin at low speed and cancel drying, then distribute clothing evenly.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Spin speed and unbalance
The HLC1700AXW spins up to 1,200 rpm. Its cycle guide lists No Spin and several spin speeds, so a load that is wetter than expected may simply have run a lower spin speed. Unb is the unit's message for an unbalanced load, and Haier's action is to spin at low speed, cancel drying and evenly distribute the clothing in the wash basket.
Where the pump filter and trap sit
The drain pump filter and the Button Trap are both reached through the small access panel at the bottom of the front. Haier's manual has you pull down on the panel catch with a coin or screwdriver, lower the door, drain the hose into a pan and turn the trap counterclockwise. A spin that never starts after a slow drain is the classic sign that the trap is full of lint, buttons or coins.
