A Steam or Sanitize cycle can keep the door locked for a while after the display says the cycle is done, until the drum cools. Wait first. After the end-of-cycle melody, give the washer a few minutes, and after a hot cycle give it longer. If the door is still locked, check for water: look through the glass and see whether water remains in the drum. A drain problem keeps the door locked, so open the small panel at the lower front,

with the washer unplugged and a dish and towels ready, and clean the drain filter, then check the drain hose for kinks. If the display shows dE, the washer is reporting a door or lock fault; open and close the door firmly, pressing near the latch, and check for clothing trapped in the gasket. If nothing else works, reset the control: switch the washer off, unplug it for a few minutes, plug it back in and see whether the lock releases.

Leave the handle alone and keep screwdrivers away from the latch, because prying at a locked door is how locks and glass get broken. LG also lets you use the Cool Down or drain options in some menus; follow the manual for your model. If the door never unlocks even with the drum empty, drained and cool, the lock assembly or its signal wire has failed and a technician can replace it using the model number from the label.
