LG washing machines: ThinQ, drain errors, door locks and unbalance

LG's washers range from the 4-Way agitator top-loaders to the TurboWash and WashTower front-load models, and the directory lists them by model. The problems people bring us are consistent: an OE drain code, a UE unbalance code, a door that will not lock or unlock, a washer that stops mid-cycle and ThinQ pairing that fails. A top-load and a front-load share the codes but not the fixes, so use the model page rather than a general guide.

For OE, check the drain hose for a kink and a clogged pump filter, which on a front-load washer sits behind a small cover at the front. For UE, redistribute the load, add a few towels to a single heavy item and level the machine. For door codes on a front-load washer, check the seal for caught clothing and wait for the lock to release after a spin. LG's Smart Diagnosis lets a support agent hear the washer's status through your phone, and the ThinQ app reports codes.

Find the model on a label near the lid hinge or the door frame. LG's support site asks for it and for the serial. ThinQ pairs on 2.4 GHz, and an app that cannot find the washer usually needs the Wi-Fi on the washer's panel switched on and the phone close by. Run the Tub Clean cycle monthly, use HE detergent and keep the door or lid open between loads.
