Maytag MVW7232 top-load washer does not clean clothes well

Maytag MVW7232 top-load washer does not clean clothes well: poor cleaning is usually resolved by load size, cycle, soil level, detergent, temperature and water flow before parts replacement. Scoped to MVW7232H*.

When clothes are not coming clean in a Maytag MVW7232, Maytag's Product Help works down a list: was the washer recently installed (run an empty Quick Wash with HE detergent first), was the right temperature chosen and the hoses connected hot to hot and cold to cold, was the cycle and soil level right (Extra Heavy soil or Extra Power for heavy soil), HE detergent measured to the label, additives used correctly, the load loose and sorted, and a Clean Washer cycle run monthly with affresh. A Clean Washer cycle also re-calibrates the control to its factory water levels.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Cycle, soil level and spin choices
Each MVW7232 cycle is a combination of agitation speed, spin speed and water temperature. Soil Level sets the wash time preset for the cycle: Extra Heavy or the Extra Power button gives more wash time for heavy soil, and Light gives less and reduces tangling. Spin speed is picked by the cycle and can be changed; faster spins mean shorter dry times but more wrinkling. The Casual or Delicate cycle raises the water level to reduce dye transfer.
