Whirlpool WFW9620 front-load washer door or lid will not unlock

Whirlpool WFW9620 front-load washer door or lid will not unlock: do not force the door; most controls keep it locked while water, heat or motion is detected. Scoped to WFW9620H*.

If the door of a Whirlpool WFW9620 will not open, Whirlpool's own Product Help lists three cases. A new washer may arrive with the door locked, which can happen from normal shipping movement. A Fresh Hold cycle, on some models, keeps the door locked until you press Cancel, which is normal. And if the washer will not unlock at the end of a wash cycle, unplug it, wait about 2 minutes for the control to reset, plug it back in and run a Drain and Spin cycle, after which the door should unlock; if not, call for service. A door that will not stay open is usually an unlevel washer.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Int and the paused cycle
If the cycle was paused or cancelled the washer may take 20 to 30 minutes to stop spinning and drain and shows Int during that time. To clear it press Pause or Cancel twice and the Power button once; if the code stays, unplug the washer or disconnect power for 5 minutes. A door that seems stuck shortly after a cancel may simply still be draining.
Door will not stay open
A door that swings shut or will not stay open is usually an unlevel washer, according to Whirlpool: the door should stay in place when open, but if the unit is not level it can swing more easily. Rock the washer from the top and adjust the feet, then tighten the jam nuts against the base. That fix also cures the vibration and the noise that come with an unlevel front-loader.
