  If Wi-Fi drops after an update, forget the network, restart the router and test on 5 GHz. Bluetooth shares an antenna area with Wi-Fi, so a congested 2.4 GHz network can disturb a mouse.

  Move photos and video to iCloud or an external drive, use Optimize Storage in System Settings, General, Storage and delete old downloads. Check the largest folders with Storage settings. Leave at least ten percent free so macOS can swap and update without slowing down.
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth tips
  Forget the network, restart the router and rejoin. Move Bluetooth accessories away from USB-C hubs, which can emit noise, and check System Settings, Bluetooth for a device that has stalled. A restart clears most wireless faults on Apple silicon, because there is no separate Bluetooth reset in the menu.
• Accessories that suit it
  A MagSafe cable and a suitable adapter keep the Air charging reliably, and a USB-C hub supports a second display with the lid closed. A thin sleeve protects it, and a stand improves airflow. Use a cable rated for the display you connect, since the wrong cable limits the resolution. Keep a small cloth for the screen, and avoid putting a heavy bag on the Air, which can mark the display.
• Fanless design and heat
  The MacBook Air with the M3 chip has no fan, so heavy work such as a long video export, many browser tabs or a large game makes the aluminum case warm and the system slows itself to cool down. That slowdown is normal behavior and is why a sustained task runs slower after a few minutes. Put the laptop on a hard, flat surface and not a blanket, close apps you are not using and check Activity Monitor for a process using a lot of the processor. If the machine is hot at idle, restart it, update macOS and look for a runaway process or a browser extension, before suspecting hardware.
• Ports, charging and storage
  It charges over MagSafe or either of its USB-C ports, and the cable's wattage matters for how quickly the battery fills. The base storage is modest, so a full drive is a very common cause of a slow laptop; check Settings, General, Storage and clear what is large. Use Apple Diagnostics by holding the power button at start-up to test the hardware, and keep a Time Machine backup before any reset or repair.
