A dryer that takes two cycles to dry a load has a vent problem long before it has a part problem. Pull the dryer out, disconnect the vent hose, look for lint and for a crushed or kinked run, clear the outside hood flap, and clean the lint screen housing with a long brush. If the dryer starts to dry properly again, the code you were chasing was the vent.
Next, the supply. An electric Amana dryer needs both legs of a 240-volt circuit; if one breaker has tripped the drum will turn and the dryer will not heat. The model number is on a label inside the door opening, and a technician will ask for it.
If a code is left after those checks, it names a sensor, a heating element, a thermal fuse, the drive motor or the board. Most are inexpensive parts on a machine this simple, but anything involving the 240-volt wiring or the board is for a technician.
Where Maytag owners chase heat faults, Amana owners more often meet control and sensor codes. F1 E1 and its relatives mean the main control or the user interface reported a fault, and the first test is to touch Power to clear the code and try a timed dry cycle. F2 E1 reads a key as stuck, so press every pad and dry the panel. F6 E1 means the control and the user interface lost communication, and the harness between them is the first check. F7 E1 is the drive motor or its wiring; listen for the drum trying to turn. The status messages PF, Loc and ERR are not faults: power was interrupted, the control lock is on, or the door is not latched.
