York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace showing 2 red flashes: meaning and exact next steps

2 red flashes means The pressure switch is closed when it should be open. The control confirms the switch contacts are open at the beginning of each heat cycle and will not let the ignition sequence continue if they are closed.

Every code

Every York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code: what it means and what to do

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code 1-red-flash-flame-with-no-call-for-heat

Flame was sensed when there was not a call for heat. The control turns on both the inducer motor and the supply air blower.

Note that the burners are lit or glowing when the thermostat is not calling for heat.

York's manual says to check for a leaking or slow-closing gas valve. Gas at the burners with no call for heat is a stop condition, and the valve is technician work.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code 10-red-flashes-gas-valve-energized-no-call

The gas valve is energized with no call for heat. The main blower and inducer blower run, and no ignition sequence is started as long as this condition exists.

Note that the blowers run with no call for heat.

York's manual says to check the gas valve and the gas valve wiring. Gas-valve work belongs to a licensed technician.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code 11-red-flashes-limit-open-five-to-fifteen-minutes

The limit circuit has remained open for more than five minutes and less than fifteen minutes. This is usually caused by a failed blower motor or blower wheel. The control enters a hard lockout, and power has to be cycled off and on to reset it after the problem is corrected.

Listen for the blower and check that the filter is not blocking airflow.

York's manual attributes this to a failed blower motor or blower wheel. Replacing either is technician work.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code 13-red-flashes-high-fire-pressure-switch-open

The high-fire pressure switch is open when it should be closed.

Look outside for a partially blocked intake or exhaust pipe termination.

York's manual says to check for a partially blocked vent pipe or a loose or disconnected wire before replacing the pressure switch.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code 4-amber-flashes-y-without-g

The control is receiving a Y signal from the thermostat without a G signal. The furnace operates normally in both heating and cooling, and the code is displayed to alert the user to a wiring problem.

Note that the furnace still heats and cools normally.

York's manual says to verify that the G wire from the thermostat is connected properly. This is a thermostat wiring fault, not a furnace fault.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code 4-red-flashes-main-limit-open

The main limit switch has opened its normally closed contacts. The control turns on the supply air blower and inducer. If the main limit opens five times within a single call for heat, the control indicates 4 red flashes and enters a one-hour soft lockout.

Check that the air filter is clean and the supply and return registers are open.

York's manual says to check for a dirty filter, an improperly sized duct system, an incorrect blower speed setting, an incorrect firing rate, loose limit switch wiring or a faulty blower motor. If the limit has not closed within five minutes the control flashes 11 red flashes, and after fifteen minutes it flashes 5 red flashes.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code 5-red-flashes-limit-circuit-open-15-minutes

The limit circuit has been open for more than fifteen minutes, usually meaning a manual-reset rollout switch has opened. The control enters a hard lockout, and power has to be cycled off and on to reset it after the problem is corrected.

Note whether a 4 red flash or 11 red flash code came first.

York's manual says to check for proper combustion air, proper inducer operation, a primary heat exchanger failure or a burner problem. A tripped rollout switch is a safety condition, so leave the cause to a technician.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code 7-red-flashes-no-ignition

Flame could not be established during three trials for ignition. The furnace locks out for one hour and then restarts.

Check that the gas valve switch on the furnace is in the ON position and that the gas supply valve is open.

York's manual says to check for low or no gas pressure, a faulty gas valve, a dirty or faulty flame sensor, a faulty hot surface ignitor, loose wires or a burner problem.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code 9-red-flashes-reversed-polarity-or-grounding

Reversed line voltage polarity, a grounding problem or reversed low-voltage transformer wires. Both heating and cooling operations are affected, and the furnace will not start the ignition sequence until the problem is corrected.

Note whether any wiring work or a power-outlet change happened recently.

York's manual says to check the polarity at the furnace and at the branch circuit, check the furnace grounding, and check that the flame probe is not shorted to the chassis. That is line-voltage work for a licensed technician.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code continuous-amber-flash-low-flame-sense

Flame sense current is below 1.5 microamps. This code flashes continuously, with no pauses.

Note that the burners light and then shut off.

York's manual says to check and clean the flame sensor, check for proper gas flow, and verify that the current is greater than 1.5 microamps at the flame current test pad. It gives normal flame sense current as about 3.7 microamps DC and the control lockout point as 0.1 microamps. Cleaning the sensor is the usual repair, and measuring the current is technician work.

York TM9V two-stage variable-speed gas furnace code steady-off-led

The LED does not flash at all.

Check that the furnace's power switch is on and that the 115 V breaker has not tripped.

York's manual says to check for power to the board and for a blown fuse on the board. If the board is properly powered and the fuse is not blown, the control board may need to be replaced.
