Check battery usage before replacing the battery. An app using power in the background, a weak cellular signal and a recent update can drain a healthy battery. Compare idle use with active use, then check the battery-health information available on the exact model.
Differential
Likely causes of “Google Pixel battery drains too quickly”, and how to tell them apart
- 1
A new phone, a reset or a software update
What separates it The battery drains faster in the first days or weeks, or after a reset or an Android update
How to confirm Google says after setup or a factory reset optimization can take a few weeks, and after an update the phone works hard to download and optimize software; if the drain continues for a few days after an update, contact Google
- 2
One app using the battery in the background
What separates it One app is far above the rest in Battery usage, with high background use
How to confirm Open Settings, Battery, Battery usage and use Google's step to restrict the apps with high background or overall battery use, then compare the next day
- 3
Adaptive Battery or battery optimization turned off
What separates it Battery falls faster than a comparable phone and Adaptive Battery is off in Settings
How to confirm Turn on Adaptive Battery and battery optimization, which Google says learns your usage and optimizes the battery
- 4
A heavy chip load on the Tensor G5
What separates it Battery falls fast during gaming or camera use and the phone gets hot
How to confirm Wikipedia notes the Tensor G5 runs cooler and more efficiently than the G4 but throttles under sustained load in GSMArena's tests; check Settings, Battery for the app driving it
- 5
A battery whose capacity is now Reduced
What separates it Drain is even across apps and Battery health shows Reduced
How to confirm Open Settings, Battery, Battery health; Google recommends replacing the battery when the capacity is labeled Reduced
Before you touch a setting
Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence
- Which of the four models you have and the Android version and build number
- Whether the drain started with a setup, factory reset or update, and how many days ago
- The top three apps in Settings, Battery, Battery usage, and the Battery health status
- Whether the drain is idle overnight, on cellular, on Wi-Fi, or only in camera or game use
Try in this order
0 of 7 completedUpdate Android and the apps
ReversibleOpen Settings, System, Software updates and install any update, and update the apps in the Play Store. Google says some steps only apply on Android 14 and up, which the Pixel 10 family ships beyond.
Read the battery diagnostics
ReversibleOpen Settings, Battery and use Battery diagnostics, available on Pixel 6 and later, to see whether the phone points to an app or a setting.
Restrict the heaviest apps
ReversibleIn Battery usage, tap the app with the highest background or overall use and restrict it, following Google's Step 1. You cannot force stop or uninstall Google Play services.
Check Adaptive Battery and optimization
ReversibleMake sure Adaptive Battery and battery optimization are on, so the phone can learn which apps you use and limit the rest.
Allow for a new setup or update
ReversibleAfter a factory reset, setup or an update, Google says the battery takes a few weeks to optimize fully and drains more for a few days; leave the phone on Wi-Fi and the charger overnight and reassess.
Check Battery health
ReversibleOn the Pixel 10 family, open Settings, Battery, Battery health to see Normal or Reduced. Google recommends replacing the battery when it says Reduced.
Charge and store it cool
ReversibleGoogle recommends charging in a cool place, about 25 degrees Celsius, with a compatible USB-C PD or PPS charger, since heat and charging habits speed up capacity loss.
Model-specific
What is true of this model and not of its siblings
- Google Pixel 10 family battery drains too quickly
- When a Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL or 10 Pro Fold drains faster than it should, Google's own order starts with what is normal: a new phone, a factory reset or a software update makes the battery work harder for a while, and Google says the battery learns your use over a few weeks. Then check Battery in Settings for the app using the most, restrict apps with high background use, and check that Adaptive Battery and battery optimization are on. If the phone is more than a few months old, look at Battery health: Google says all lithium-ion batteries lose capacity and that Battery health marks a battery as Normal or Reduced on the Pixel 8a and later, which includes the whole Pixel 10 family.
- Battery and charging by model
- Wikipedia lists 4,970 mAh with 29W wired charging for the Pixel 10, 4,870 mAh with 30W for the 10 Pro, 5,200 mAh with 45W and Qi2.2 wireless at 25W for the 10 Pro XL, and 5,015 mAh with 30W for the 10 Pro Fold. Qi2 wireless charging is 15W on the others.
- Chip and memory
- All four use the Google Tensor G5 with the Samsung Exynos 5400 modem; the Pixel 10 has 12 GB of RAM and the Pro, Pro XL and Pro Fold have 16 GB.
- Part numbers
- Google identifies a Pixel by the model number and IMEI in Settings, About phone, not a part number. Replacement batteries are ordered from Google's repair request, and iFixit sells genuine parts by part number for DIY repair.
- Tools and supplies
- The Battery and Battery health screens, a Google or PD/PPS USB-C charger and cable, a flashlight to look into the port and a soft cloth. No screwdriver is needed and the phone should not be opened.
- Repair cost
- 9to5Google's report of iFixit's Pixel 10 part prices lists a battery at $42.99 (Pixel 10 and 10 Pro) and a screen at $159.99 (Pixel 10) or $249.99 (Pixel 10 Pro); labor and Google's own repair price are quoted in a repair request.
- Other models this page answers
- These steps also fit the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Stop boundary
When this stops being a self-service repair
- !If the phone still drains unusually a few days after an update, Google says to let it know and it will help; use the Pixel help chat or a Google Store repair request
- !If Battery health shows Reduced, book a battery replacement; iFixit's part price for the Pixel 10 and 10 Pro battery is $42.99 (9to5Google), and Google quotes its own repair price in a repair request
- !If the back bulges or the phone is hot while idle, stop using it and take it to a repair location the same day

Google: understand your Pixel batteryPixel 6a
Certain affected phones apply battery-management changes after 400 charge cycles to reduce overheating risk. That safety limit can reduce capacity and charging performance; a reset does not reverse it. Google’s program support options ended July 8, 2026, so do not assume a free replacement is still available.
