Four years into its life, the Galaxy S22+ has a long history of accounts, backups and app updates, and sync failures on an older Samsung phone often come from leftovers: an account that was added twice, a sync schedule that One UI has quietly turned off or a cloud service that has changed its rules since the phone was new. Start by looking at what the phone thinks is happening. Settings, Accounts and backup, Manage accounts lists every account on the phone, and a duplicate entry, or an account with a red warning, is the first thing to fix.
The checks in more detail
Tap an account and the Sync account page lists each data type with the time of its last sync. The data that matter most to people are contacts, calendar and mail from Google, and Gallery, Notes, Reminders and Calendar from Samsung. One point catches many owners of this phone. Since 2021 Samsung has handed photo sync in Gallery to Microsoft OneDrive, and Samsung Cloud still holds the other items such as Notes, Reminders and settings backups, so a Gallery that is not syncing is a OneDrive matter, signed in through Settings, Accounts and backup, OneDrive.
If you rely on Samsung Cloud for notes, check that the Samsung account is signed in and that the data type's switch is on. A phone that has not been backed up for a long time may refuse to sync until you sign in again. Then look at the phone's attempts to save power. On an older phone Adaptive battery is stricter, and apps used rarely are put to sleep. In Settings, Battery and device care, Battery, Background usage limits, move the sync app out of the sleeping lists.
Check Settings, Connections, Data usage for Data saver and for background data restrictions on the app. If an account asks for a password after a long time, that is the account's own security: remove and add it again, once you have checked the data is online. Make sure the clock is automatic. When the S22+ receives its final updates, install them; a sync fix may be inside. Restart the phone and test one data type at a time. If a single app refuses, clear its cache. A factory reset is a last resort, and should follow a full backup.
