Xbox consoles that will not turn on, crash or fail to install a game: the power cycle, storage and network checks, from the simplest to a console reset.
Xbox consoles restart from the Guide, Profile and system, Settings, General, Power options. A full power cycle, which means holding the power button for ten seconds and unplugging the console for 30 seconds, clears many faults. Keep the console updated, and if it cannot go online, use an offline system update from a USB drive.
Xbox controller connects but some buttons do not work
A connected controller can still have remapping, game-specific input, outdated firmware or physical button failure. Test in Xbox Accessories before replacing it.

The Series X has a disc drive and the Series S has none; the One X, One S and original One use similar drives. A disc that will not read should be tried on another disc, cleaned with water and checked for the right region. Storage fills quickly, especially on a 512 GB Series S, so uninstall unused games or add an expansion card or an external drive.
How do I power cycle an Xbox?
Hold the power button for ten seconds until it turns off, unplug the power for 30 seconds and start it again.
