LG electric or gas dryer will not connect to Wi-Fi or the manufacturer's app

LG electric or gas dryer will not connect to Wi-Fi or the manufacturer's app: confirm that the exact model has wireless hardware and supports the current app before network changes. Scoped to DLEX6500*.

The LG DLEX6500 supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks only, and the Wi-Fi icon appears in its display when Wi-Fi is on. Connection is started from the Options menu: Wi-Fi Connection sets it up, and the manual's Wi-Fi table lists five causes of failure: a wrong password, phone mobile data left on, an SSID with special characters, a 5 GHz router, or the dryer too far from the router. On some phones the app also asks for a password to join the dryer's own network, the last four characters of its name entered twice.

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • Your router's band and the name of the network the dryer is joining
  • Whether the app asked for a password to join the dryer's own network and what the network name looked like
  • Whether the Wi-Fi icon shows in the dryer display

Try in this order

0 of 5 completed
  1. Install the LG ThinQ app

    Reversible

Scan the QR code on the dryer, or install LG ThinQ from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Sign in with your LG account or create one, then touch the add button to connect.

  2. Switch the router to 2.4 GHz

    Reversible

Check the frequency with your internet provider or the router maker. LG says only 2.4 GHz networks are supported, and the name should use English letters and numbers only.

  3. Turn off mobile data on the phone

    Reversible

LG says to turn off the mobile data on your smartphone before you try connecting the appliance to Wi-Fi.

  4. Enter the dryer's network password if asked

    Reversible

If the network name looks like LGE_Appliance_8b92, enter the last four characters twice: 8b928b92. LG says it is case sensitive. If it looks like LGE_Appliance_XX-XX-XX, enter lge12345.

  5. Check the Wi-Fi icon and settings

    Reversible

Press Options and turn the knob to Wi-Fi Connection. When Wi-Fi is on, the Wi-Fi icon appears in the display. If setup keeps failing, delete your home network from the phone and begin again.

Stop boundary

When this stops being a self-service repair

  • !If setup fails on a 2.4 GHz network with a plain name and a close router, contact LG support for the ThinQ app
  • !If the dryer works normally without Wi-Fi you do not need the app to dry clothes; use the panel
  • !If the dryer loses its connection nightly, check the router first, since LG says it is not responsible for network faults
