LG electric or gas dryer will not start

LG electric or gas dryer will not start: prove power, door switch, control lock and the Start-button hold behavior before internal repair. Scoped to DLEX6500*.

An LG DLEX6500 that will not start after you press Start/Pause has three usual causes in the manual: Control Lock is on, the door is not fully shut, or the dryer has no power. With Control Lock the dryer beeps and does nothing; on this model you turn it off from the menu, not with a button hold: press Options, turn the knob to Control Lock, press OK, choose Off and press OK again. Check the door and the power before you look further.

Try in this order

0 of 5 completed
  1. Press Power and read the display

    Reversible

If nothing lights, go to the no-power checks. If it lights, note any indicator or message before pressing anything else.

  2. Turn Control Lock off

    Reversible

Press Options, turn the knob to Control Lock and press OK. Select Off and press OK. LG says when locked all buttons except Power are dead, and that turning the power off does not reset the lock.

  3. Close the door properly

    Reversible

Load the drum so nothing hangs out and push the door firmly shut. Look for a sock or a strap caught in the opening.

  4. Select a cycle and start it

    Reversible

Turn the knob to the cycle you want, press OK if asked, adjust settings, then press Start/Pause.

  5. Watch the first minutes

    Reversible

If it starts and then stops after a few minutes, use the stops-mid-cycle page, which covers the vent and small-load causes.
