My Shark PowerDetect suction keeps changing on its own.+

That is PowerDetect working as designed — it senses dirt level and floor type and automatically raises suction on carpet or over a dirty patch, then eases off on clean hard floor, so the motor sound and pull change as you clean. It is not surging or a fault. If you want constant suction, most models let you turn the auto mode off. Note that the auto boosts also draw more battery, so runtime varies with how dirty the floor is.
